Criminal Record Checks

Criminal record checks are important, whether they are mandatory for the role or not. Carrying out the relevant criminal background checks reduces the risk of placing an unsuitable person in a role. Experian Background Checking is registered with the Criminal Records Bureau and Disclosure Scotland. 

A  Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Disclosure will reveal if a person has convictions that would make an employer consider them unsuitable to do a specific job, such as convictions for theft, fraud or dishonesty.

Using Experian Background Checking for these criminal record checks doesn't just save you time and effort. We are able to manage the entire criminal background checking process for you from providing the authorised signature required to initiate the request, through to the follow up contacts we make, to ensure the fastest processing of the application. 

Levels of CRB Disclosure available

There are three levels of CRB disclosures that can be obtained; Basic, Standard and Enhanced. 

  • Basic disclosures are available for anyone and are not job-specific. Contains only convictions considered unspent under The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
  • Standard disclosures contains all conviction information, spent and unspent, including cautions. Available for positions covered by the Exceptions Order 1975 to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA), for example positions within the Security Industry and Financial Services.
  • Enhanced disclosures contains all conviction information, spent and unspent, and any other non conviction information considered to be relevant by the police or other Government bodies. Available for positions involving work with children and vulnerable adults.
