Five years ago I was the victim of credit fraud and I fought for four years to clear my credit profile. I am currently spending a year in New Zealand and I am having an issue with a finance company over a gym membership. I am aiming to resolve the issue but would like to know if this problem could affect UK credit profile. Thanks for your help.

Fraud is still a big problem. We received almost 50% more requests for help in the first half of 2008 compared with the same period in 2007. I'm glad you eventually sorted things out, but your experience does rather show the mess identity fraudsters often leave behind. Assuming it's a New Zealand gym you're currently in dispute with, you can rest assured that this will have no bearing on your UK credit history. New Zealand and UK credit reference agencies do not share credit report data due to strict data protection rules.
