My credit report does not include my MasterCard which I have held for 25+ years. I have been told that the reason is just that - because my application was so long ago, it has "missed the system". I need to get it included - how do I go about this? Do I forward to you proof of my account - card statements etc. - and where do I send them to? Thanking you in anticipation.

You are essentially right. Many credit agreements taken out before the late nineties only got the customers' permission to register information with the credit reference agencies if the accounts went into default. These days the vast majority of lenders now share information about all new customers through the agencies, to promote responsible lending and prevent fraud. But they can only do this for accounts where appropriate permission was obtained, meaning that there is a large chunk of older accounts, estimated to be around 45-50 million, that can't currently be shared for this reason. The government is currently looking at possible solutions, but this could take a while. What you can do, however, is contact the provider of your MasterCard and ask if you can give them permission to share details of your account now. If their IT system allows them to do this, your MasterCard should make a welcome, if rather belated, appearance on your credit history very soon.
